BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A Galveston police K-9 is stable after he sustained serious injuries while searching for a wanted suspect on Thursday, the department said.

The incident happened at about 2 p.m. Thursday. The Galveston Police Department said officers were helping the U.S. Marshals Service with a warrant service in the 10200 block of County Road 941B in Alvin.

The U.S. Marshals Service said the multi-agency operation was to find Brandon Graham, who was wanted out of Brazoria County. They add that Graham ran into the woods, and that's when the police K-9 was released.

During the warrant execution, the K-9 was injured by the suspect and had to be rushed to Westbury Animal Hospital by Life Flight. Police said he is stable.

Graham, who was wanted on felony evading, felony burglary, felony tampering with evidence and two counts of child endangerment, will face another evading count and an assault of a service animal charge, the U.S. Marshals Service said.

Authorities added that K-9 Jorka was also treated for heat-related illness at the hospital.
