A former Texas state trooper has been sentenced to over four decades in federal prison after sexually assaulting two women while on duty.
U.S. District Judge George C. Hanks has ordered 34-year-old Lee Ray Boykin Jr. to serve 516 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Southern District of Texas. The sentencing comes after a jury returned a guilty verdict against Boykin in January following a three-hour deliberation and four-day trial.
The trial centered on two separate women victimized by Boykin. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office release, "One of the victims explained how Boykin had taken her to a secluded parking lot after being ordered out of her friend’s car following a traffic stop. Once there, Boykin falsely accused her of being a prostitute, threatened to take her to jail, and forced her to perform oral sex on him. Afterward, he told her to run while placing his hand on his gun."
Prosecutors showed the jury evidence that Boykin's DNA was present in the parking lot. The victim's DNA was also identified on Boykin's underwear, per the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The second woman testified that " Boykin ordered her out of her friend’s car and placed her into Boykin’s vehicle. Boykin falsely told her she had outstanding traffic warrants." According to the release, "[Boykin] then took this victim to the same secluded parking lot, where she performed oral sex on him. Three days later, Boykin attempted to get her into his trooper car again, but she was able to escape."
“Lee Ray Boykin turned traffic stops into sexual assaults,” said U.S. Attorney Hamdani, adding that “he used his badge and all the power it afforded to force himself onto two vulnerable women. Boykin targeted victims he believed would not report him and even thought he got away with it."
