The City of Jourdanton councilmembers voted to begin the process of reviewing applications for the city manager position which has been posted since mid-September.

Councilmembers voted to have a special called meeting on Nov. 1 to discuss and review applications and take necessary action to fill the city manager position as needed.

Bobby Martinez was terminated as city manager on Aug. 21 after nine months on the job. The hiring of a new city manager will be the second since Lamar Schulz resigned in late 2022.

The job posting for city manager will close on Oct. 25 after which council members will begin reviewing the applications to short list.

Councilmember Patricia Tymrak-Daughtrey amended a motion to begin reviewing applications immediately before closing on Oct. 25, however, it did not pass for lack of a second motion.

“We need to vet and we need time to vet so we can be reading and start coming in to review,” Tymrak- Daughtrey said. “We’ve already suffered from that situation before.”

Legal counsel for the City of Jourdanton recommended council to review the applications and provide a shortlist and they would provide background check information services. The legal team said they do not provide checking past employment history on the applicants.

Currently, City Secretary Debbie Molina is serving as interim city manager until the position is filled.
