The City of Baytown, along with the help of planning consultant, Kendig Keast Collaborative, is working toward an updated unified landing development code. The project started last year and is expecting adoption for Spring 2024. Kendig’s Senior Associate Steve Sizemore presented the idea Tuesday, going in depth with the company’s goals.
According to Sizemore, ULDC merges the city’s development-related laws, such as off-street parking, signs and subdivisions into one document only. The objective is to “increase user-friendliness” for development, real estate and consultant communities. Sizemore also explained that zoning districts, landing standards and definitions are the “most accessed” provisions.
“We’re going to be publishing this online … (the code will) be even more enhanced with cross referencing and use of interactive tables,” Sizemore said.
This online code will be printable, downloadable and may include calculators and look-up tools.
“You can customize how you interact with your particular application type or property,” Sizemore said.
The company will have several versions of the code for administration to review.
“The ULDC was introduced to Baytown some time ago and needs some updates,” Planning and Zoning Commission Chairperson Tracey Wheeler said.
Once the city provides feedback, the ULDC will launch in the spring.
