A San Antonio police officer was suspended indefinitely three years after he was accused of sexually assaulting and paying a woman in exchange for a sexual relationship.
Officer Humberto Zuniga Jr. was one of several officers disciplined in September. Zuniga was placed on administrative after he was charged Aug. 5, 2020, with sexually assaulting his romantic partner.
The sexual assault case against Zuniga was dismissed earlier this month.
The woman said she met Zuniga on a dating app and had been in a relationship with him for several months. According to the affidavit, the couple was at his apartment drinking and dancing when he asked her to have sex, the Express-News previously reported. She refused, but the woman said Zuniga forced her onto his bed and raped her, according to the affidavit.
Zuniga later told investigators that he’d paid the woman more than $1,000 over several months “for a dating/sexual relationship.”
The woman told police she repeatedly asked him to stop, but he ignored her, so she grabbed a knife and cut his bicep to get him off her, the affidavit said. Zuniga finally stopped and then drove her home.
Zuniga also was suspended in 2015 after he was accused of threatening to send sexually explicit photos of his ex-girlfriend to her friends and family if she didn’t drop a civil lawsuit against him seeking $8,000.
“(She) allowed Zuniga to transfer more than $8,000 in debt onto one of her credit cards to help him reduce his interest burden, but Officer Zuniga refused to repay the money after their break-up, resulting in the lawsuit,” according to the suspension paperwork.
Officer Nicholas Rosol received a 30-day suspension, starting Oct. 12, after he failed to conduct a sobriety test on an apparent drunken driver in April, according to disciplinary records.
Records state Rosol responded to a minor hit-and-run accident on April 1. The driver was “showing apparent signs of intoxication” and allegedly had just left the scene of another crash.
One of the drivers involved did not have a valid driver’s license or insurance, records show. The insurance Rosol was given was expired, and he documented a Mexican consulate identification as a Mexican driver’s license. Rosol also did not fill out a Texas Peace Officer’s crash report for either crash.
Additionally, records show he did check everyone involved in the crash for warrants. The driver had a felony warrant for DWI (three or more instances).
Officer Johnathan Reyes was suspended for five days in September after SAPD’s internal affairs received a tip about “possible officer misconduct” in March 2023.
Reyes was tracked at the Embassy Suites for three hours while on duty in August 2022.
According to disciplinary documents, “checking into an Embassy Suites Hotel did not relate to Officer Reyes’ duty assignment or responsibilities as a member of the SAPD SWAT detail.”
