A Dallas police officer was shot in the leg early Wednesday, according to the department.
The shooting happened about 12:45 a.m. in the 2400 block of Northwest Highway. Dallas police Chief Eddie García said the officer, who was assigned to the department’s crime response team, was “conducting surveillance” in a parked car when another car parked behind the officer, pinning him.
Two armed people got out of the car, García said. The officer got out of his car and a shootout occurred. The officer was shot in the leg, and the suspects stole his car.
He was taken to Parkland Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, García said. The officer’s car was later found abandoned, but the suspects remain at large.
“Obviously we are looking for these individuals,” García said at a news conference. A description of the suspects and their car was not provided.
García said the department was looking for at least three people. They’re expected to be armed.
