The City of Kyle, which used to be a bedroom community for Austin, has become a growing economic hub in the I-35 corridor over the past decade and is set to gain another major tenant. Elon Musk's Tesla is reportedly leasing multiple warehouses in the Lone Star State's official Pie Capital.

Tesla will lease three of the five buildings in the 1.4 million square foot Kyle/35 Logistics Park, which is roughly half a mile from I-35. Mayor Travis Mitchell shared the news at Kyle's State of the City address on August 22, according to an Austin Business Journal report.

The warehouses, near Logistics Drive and South Goforth Road, began construction in June 2022 and Tesla will be the first known tenant, the report states. Mitchell said the facility will be used for warehouse storage and light assembly, according to the report.

"I was thinking that over the development of this project that eventually, potentially, we could get a major Tesla supplier or manufacturer to come and take down the percentage of this site. I'm sad to report that did not happen," Mitchell said during the address. "What we got instead was Tesla."

The industrial park features five logistics buildings that range from 140,000 square feet to 475,000 square feet, according to a leasing brochure. Mitchell added that Tesla planned to take over nearly 1 million square feet of the industrial park.
