The City of Pharr announced Wednesday that it has offically been approved as a certified All Fiber provider by the Fiber Broadband Association.

The association recognizes members for their commitment to ensure that customers receive the most reliable broadband services, according to a city release. Fiber Broadband Association members are able to earn All Fiber certification if they demonstrate a high level of "strategic commitment" to fiber deployment by ensuring 90% or more of their networks rely on fiber optic infrastructure.

According to the Fiber Broadband Assocation website, strategic commitment is "defined as the ratio of the total number of residential households to which Fiber Services are marketed divided by total residential households to which Services are marketed, all within the service provider’s entire local access network."

Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez, M.D., commended the work of the city and its achievement.

“This is yet another milestone achievement in the work we are doing here in the City of Pharr to close the digital divide and provide our citizens, businesses, school districts, and surrounding areas with the fastest, most reliable, and affordable internet service through our TeamPharr.Net broadband,” Hernandez said. “We are extremely proud of our team who have worked tirelessly to ensure we provide the best service through the highest quality technology, and certification while meeting the demands of our customers."

The FBA is an association that is dedicated to connecting homes, businesses and communities in North and Latin America with fiber broadband.

Gary Bolton, president and CEO at Fiber Broadband Association, congratulated the city for its milestone and its utilization of fiber.

“I congratulate the City of Pharr on its certification,” Bolton said. "Service providers, like TeamPharr.Net that qualify for the All Fiber Certification, are leveraging fiber to connect their communities and customers to high-quality internet and digital services that will support broadband needs for decades to come.”
