Rollingwood City Council members in August named Kristal Muñoz the city's permanent police chief following years of service on the force.

“The City Council and I are very pleased to announce the official appointment of Kristal Muñoz as our new Chief of Police. Having served our community for over 17 years, and as Interim Police Chief for the past year, her unwavering loyalty and commitment to Rollingwood are unmatched,” Mayor Gavin Massingill said in a statement. “With an intimate knowledge of our community, she brings a unique perspective to the role, ensuring that our law enforcement efforts remain tailored to our specific small-town needs. Her promotion is a testament to her leadership skills and exceptional dedication. I have no doubt that under her guidance, our police department will continue to foster safety, trust, and harmony within our community.”
According to the city, Muñoz joined the RPD in the early 2000s following several years as a civilian employee with the Round Rock Police Department. She worked her way up the department's ranks to a leadership position over the years and has specific training related to mental health.
City Secretary Desiree Adair said Muñoz's new salary has yet to be established and will likely be finalized by city officials following Rollingwood's upcoming budgeting process.
