After a standoff with police late Thursday, August 24, a man who is accused of shooting San Antonio police officers was arrested, according to a Facebook post by the department. Earlier in the afternoon police were tipped off about the whereabouts of 28-year-old Jesse Garcia, who was reportedly out on two bonds and had three warrants against him.

When officers arrived to confront Garcia, who the police considered to be "a very dangerous person," he reportedly armed himself with a rifle and fled in a vehicle driven by another person. Garcia allegedly shot one officer and injured another during the pursuit as he fled, police said.

Garcia then reportedly carjacked another vehicle and the pursuit ended at an apartment complex in the 2600 block of Westward Drive, located on the inner Westside. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said that when Garcia exited the vehicle he began firing at police, shooting one officer multiple times.

Garcia was said to have barricaded himself inside an apartment of a "known associate." SWAT and negotiations teams worked for several hours to get Garcia out of the apartment, officials said.

CPS Energy shared on social media around 7:30 that the utility would be turning out power to the area around the apartments. Garcia was taken into police custody around 9 p.m., according to a report by KSAT

In addition to the warrants already out against Garcia, he is facing a felony possession of a firearm, evading arrest or detention of a vehicle, and burglary of a vehicle charges. He is also being charged with five counts of aggravated assault on a Peace Officer, aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated robbery, according to the Facebook post.

The officers who were shot are being treated at area hospitals, according to KSAT 12.
