A former mail carrier in Texas is accused of stealing nearly a quarter of a million dollars in credit cards and checks from customers along her delivery route.
Investigators said 37-year-old Ashlee Humphrey Williams worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier in Houston when she started stealing the money in 2019.
Court records say Williams stole dozens of checks and credit cards from at least 37 customers, with victims including homeowners, businesses, charities and even churches. The extent of the money stolen is over $220,000.
Prosecutors added she also stole stimulus checks and gift cards from her victims.
The investigation used the victims' doorbell camera which showed Williams removing envelopes from mail piles intended for her customers. Surveillance video also captured her in her USPS uniform making purchases with the cards she stole at different businesses.
Detectives also found several pieces of open mail in Williams's car, recovering 47 different parcels that were addressed to someone other than her.
Williams has been out on bond since March when she was charged with felony mail theft. She was taken back into custody after prosecutors asked the judge to dismiss the previous charge, adding a grand jury accepted three upgraded charges that included fraudulent use of identifying information.
