On Monday, the La Grange City Council named Frank Menefee to serve in the role as the city determines its next steps following the departure of Fred Bell, who resigned on August 21st after joining the city in March.  Bell turned in his resignation during a special council meeting that was held to perform a scheduled city manager evaluation, as laid out in Bell’s contract.

Bell was hired following the retirement of Shawn Raborn, who led the city for nearly 30 years.

In a statement to the Fayette County Record about his decision to leave, Bell said he is “saddened to say goodbye to La Grange,” but he and the council felt it was “in the best interest for both parties to part ways in the management of the city.”

Bell was not the city council’s first choice for the city manager position, as the council re-opened the search process after it could not finalize an employment contract with two other candidates that were interviewed.

La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery said the search for a new city manager will begin at the council’s next meeting.
