CyrusOne, a global data center developer, is set to open a new data center in Allen, along the State Highway 121 corridor.
At a Nov. 28 city council meeting, Community Development Director Marc Kurbansade presented an overview of the proposed development, involving a data center to the southeast of the subject property and two substations to the southwest. The 86-acre plot is located near Chelsea Boulevard and Ridgeview Drive.
With the currently-established corridor commercial uses, the city does not permit a data center on the 86-acre plot. However, a resolution to rezone the property was unanimously approved by council to allow the data center.
As the city develops its last stretch of green space along Highway 121, the city aims to bring a mix of restaurant and retail, entertainment, residential and office uses. Bringing CyrusOne is expected to promote daytime traffic for restaurants around the 121 corridor in Allen.
Regulations for the uses include creating a planned development that will allow additional development of the properties, adding a masonry screening wall around the public service facility and ensuring that the proposed development will be compatible with the surrounding uses.
The data center buildings are expected to be 125,000 square feet with a height of 26 feet.
