Pleasanton City Manager Johnny Huizar received an extension through September 2027 as city manager after Pleasanton City Council members held discussions in executive session during its council meeting on Thursday.

Huizar was selected as city manager in June 2016 after the retirement of Bruce Pearson. Pearson served as city manager for four years. He served as interim city manager beginning in May 2016. At that time, Huizar was granted a $105,000 salary as an interim city manager.

On Oct. 1, 2020, Huizar’s contract was renewed and set to expire on Sept. 30, 2024. In the contract, his annual salary was agreed at $130,000 plus $600 per month for a personal vehicle and a gross-up sum of $11,675.90 for the taxable value of the effective $600 fair market monthly rental rate for a city-owned residential lease.

He began working for the City of Pleasanton in September of 1990. In 1993, he was promoted to the Wastewater Plant Superintendent position, where he remained for 18 years. He later served as Public Works Director.
