Alexis Wellborn started her new role as library manager for the City of Coppell in mid-September but has been living and working in the metroplex long before that transition. Naturally, Wellborn is a bookworm and beyond reading, she enjoys spending time with her family.

Tell our readers a little bit about yourself.

I moved to the area from Cleveland, Ohio in 2008 for a teaching position in a nearby school district. After five years of teaching in the metroplex, I considered moving back to Cleveland. I then met and fell for my husband, which changed my plans significantly. We have been married seven years and have a 2.5-year-old daughter who makes us laugh every day. I started my new role as library manager on Sept. 18 and am loving every minute.

What do you do in your new role as Library Manager for the City of Coppell?

I have the distinct pleasure of empowering my staff to meet their personal and professional goals. The City of Coppell is special in that our culture promotes growth, development, and leadership opportunities at all levels. I also work with staff to ensure we are providing patrons with excellent library experiences and finding ways to make our internal processes efficient and effective.

What initially made you interested in working in Coppell?

After seeing the initial job posting, I did some digging and found that the City of Coppell has a strong focus on excellent customer service and personal development. It was important to me to find a leadership opportunity that reflected my personal beliefs, and the city certainly does.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I am a bookworm and read whenever time allows. My daughter prefers that we play, cook, and make a mess. We also take walks as a family and say “hi” to all the neighborhood dogs.

What are some of your favorite books or authors?

There are many! I love works of fiction by the likes of Diana Gabaldon, Sarah J. Maas, and George R.R. Martin. I just finished “Iron Flame” by Rebecca Yarros and am currently reading “The Scarlet Veil” by Shelby Mahurin.

What are you passionate about?

Servant leadership, literacy, and my family.

Who or what inspires you?

My father has always been my greatest inspiration and I hope to live my life serving others, as he did. He defined servant leadership for me before I had a name for it. I saw how he positively impacted everyone in his life with compassion and kindness. I am lucky to have had such an amazing role model.

How did you know this career was something you wanted to pursue?

When I allowed myself to consider combining my two greatest passions into a career, I had no other choice than to put all my energy into its pursuit.

What has been your favorite part about working in the library?

My staff! They have been welcoming, helpful, and receptive to everything I have brought to them. We have great conversations, and their feedback helps me understand my next steps as their advocate. I plan my goals around their areas of need to help them achieve self-efficacy.

What kind of impact do you hope to make on patrons of the library?

I hope they continue to receive excellent service from our amazing staff. Our library will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024 and our staff has big plans that include amazing experiences for all ages.

Please share anything else you'd like our readers to know.

I’m an identical twin. She lives in Ohio, but we talk pretty much every day.
