The Jasper City Council met in a special called meeting on Monday and, following a very quick executive session, they re-emerged and voted on terms for Greg Kelley to serve as Interim City Manager.
Greg Kelley will step into the role on January 13th, the day after current City Manager Denise Kelley (no relation) retires after decades of employment with the city.
Mayor Anderson Land says that Greg Kelley will continue in his current role as Public Works Director, as well as taking on City Manager duties.
According to Land, Kelley will continue to receive his Public Works Director salary of $106,734.37 per year, and he’ll receive an extra $5,000.00 per month as Interim City Manager.
The motion for the agreement was made by Councilman Ronnie Sample and seconded by Councilman David Shultz, and then Council voted unanimously in favor of the agreement.
Meanwhile, KJAS News has received information from reliable sources within City Hall who allege that Councilmen David Shultz, DeMarcus Holmes, and Rashad Lewis attempted to give Greg Kelley a contract without approval of the full City Council.
