“In Frisco, we always like to be innovative and think through things differently.”
Jeff Cheney, Mayor, Frisco
.…on why Frisco has more roundabout intersections than any other city in Texas, via the Dallas Morning News.

Circle this in your notes on North Texas: Frisco is the No. 1 city in the Lone Star State and the No. 7 city in the U.S. in its number of roundabout intersections.

That’s according to a story by Susan McFarland in the Dallas Morning News. Citing data from Kittelson & Associates, the DMN says Frisco has 61 roundabouts, with four more under construction and 16 in the design phase.

The top roundabout city in the U.S.? That’s Carmel, Indiana, where drivers circle around 145 roundabouts as they go about their days.

Mayor Cheney told the DMN that Frisco officials visited Carmel “years ago” to research how roundabouts provide a “more pleasant” and efficient driving experience.

Cheney said that Frisco doesn’t necessarily do things “just because it’s the way they’ve always been done. So we started looking at roundabouts as a traffic mitigation tool.”

You can read more about the city’s circular journey to innovative intersections in the DMN story here.
