A large-scale fire broke out on Christmas Eve at a North Texas automobile auction facility that engulfed nearly 60 vehicles on Sunday, December 24, officials said. Denton County Emergency Services District shared photos of the fire and the aftermath on Facebook.

Officials said firefighters were dispatched to the blaze around 1:32 a.m. to reports of a grassfire in the 3700 Block of McPherson Road, which is when they reported seeing "a large column of smoke and flames visible from I-35 West."

Denton County ESD was assisted by the Fort Worth, Denton, Flower Mound, Justin, Roanoke fire departments and Haslet Fire Rescue from Tarrant County ESD. Officials said that All American Towing & Recovery moved vehicles to create a fire break to contain the blaze, which was officially declared out at 3:09 a.m. 58 vehicles in all were involved with the fire.

The Denton County Fire Marshal's Office is continuing to investigate.
