MCALLEN, Texas – A New Year, a New Hire.

McAllen Economic Development Corporation has announced a major new hire.

Josh Vasquez, formerly business relations representative for Workforce Solutions Lower Rio, has joined MEDC as director of workforce development.

“As we kick off the new year, we are excited to introduce Mr. Josh Vasquez as our director of workforce development,” MEDC said, in a statement on social media.

“With a Bachelor of Business Administration, a Master of Public Administration in the works, Mr. Vasquez has over 15 years’ experience in working with economic and workforce development.”

MEDC says Vasquez’ expertise in economic development has been in the areas of business development, incentives, and recruitment.

“Although the last 15 years have mostly been in economic development, he has worked with non-profits and has also volunteered with many community groups in the South Texas region over the last 20 years,” the group said.

Vasquez is the recipient of the 2019 Texas Veterans Commission’s Extra Mile Award for his work with the Veteran Community of the Rio Grande Valley.

“Mr. Vasquez continues to engage business to support economic development for the region,” MEDC said. “With his background and expertise, he will be a valuable addition to our team. We look forward to witnessing his contributions to the success of McAllen EDC.”

Vasquez earned a bachelor of business administration degree at UT-Pan American. He is studying for a masters degree in public administration at UTRGV.
