Just as the price of copper has started to see a jump in a value after a month of downward trends, four individuals got busted by San Antonio Police officers reportedly attempting to snag $20,000-$30,000 worth of the semi-precious metal. According to a KSAT 12 report, four individuals were wrangled in the wee hours of Thursday morning attempting to lug tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of the conductive metal from a building at North St. Mary’s Street and Jones Avenue.

According to early reports from the TV news station, the four individuals snagged the copper wire after making their way through a fence and dug up the stringy metal from underground. The alleged thieves reportedly loaded the haul into a truck before someone in a neighboring apartment complex called the cops.

“The suspects were about to drive off when officers arrived at the scene,” KSAT 12 reported. “Police caught the four suspects, including three men and one woman, and arrested them.”
