Floresville City Manager Andy Joslin, city Councilman Donald Scee, and Floresville Economic Development Corp. board President David Del Bosque are scheduled to join Wilson County Judge Hank Whitman on a trip to Washington D.C. from Dec. 4-8. Their departure will be Dec. 3.
The Floresville City Council, at its Oct. 26 regular meeting, voted unanimously to spend $1,851.35 each to pay for Joslin’s and Scee’s hotel, flight, and meals. The Floresville Economic Development Corp. will cover Del Bosque’s expenses, while the county will cover Whitman’s costs. Joslin said the trip is being organized by EMC Strategy Group, LLC. The consultants are coordinating face-to-face meetings for local officials with U.S. representatives and senators in hopes of steering funding back to the city and county for projects, such as finding a new home for the Floresville Food Pantry & Resource Center. The council also postponed making appointments to the Floresville 4A Corp. board to the Dec. 14 meeting, due to the low amount of responses to the initial call for applications. Interested residents now will have until Dec. 8 to apply to serve on the board that oversees the Lauro G. De Leon III Floresville Event Center and the repayment of debts associated with its construction.
In other business, the council:
•Approved a policy for naming city buildings, requiring petitions of 50-500 names for minor facilities, and 100-500 names for major facilities. Rules for the naming of streets were not decided upon.
•Approved the preliminary plat for the Bubble Bath Car Wash, which will be located at the corner of Plum Street and U.S. 181 on the former site of the Dean & Peeler Meat Market
•Approved that the city should solicit requests for qualifications from providers of professional services such as engineering, architecture, and surveying.
