EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — In the wake of Thanksgiving, El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser is thanking city employees by taking them out to a basketball game.

In appreciation for the work of City employees, Mayor Leeser purchased 1,000 tickets to the UTEP Miners basketball game against UCSB on November 13 at 7 p.m. in the Don Haskins Center.

Tickets are available for pick up in the Mayor's office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at City Hall, according to the city's media release.

Up to four tickets will be offered to city employees for free and on a first-come-first-serve basis.

This isn't the first time Mayor Leeser has made a gesture of appreciation toward city employees.

According to his office, the mayor has always supported UTEP Athletics, and for the past two years has been active in UTEP's “Sun Bowl Sell Out” campaigns by personally purchasing football tickets and offering them to city employees in appreciation of their hard work.

Mayor Leeser released the following statement about extending his city employee appreciation campaign to the basketball season:

UTEP is such an important part of this community, and City Employees are an integral part in everything we do at the city. We are successful because of them. Through this effort, I am very happy to be able to support the Miners as well as thank employees for their hard work and dedication by providing them an opportunity for a nice evening out with their families in the legendary Don Haskins Center.
I am ready for some basketball! Go Miners!
