How many people thought working from home would be a permanent situation going forward in the wake of the pandemic?  We’re sure a lot did.

And while that remains the case for most of the country, workers in Texas appear to be heading back to the office.

According to a new report from commercial property firm Transwestern, Dallas, Austin, and Houston lead the nation in workers heading back to the office.

On average, 47% of workers in any given city are back at their desks in the office.  Dallas, 54% are back; in Houston 60% are back; and in Austin almost 58% are back.

According to the Dallas Morning News, only Dallas, Austin, and Houston have ever been able to crack 60% of workers back in the office.

Andrew Matheny, research manager in Transwestern’s Dallas office said in the report, “Although vacancy is climbing as companies shed unneeded space with work from home, long-term job growth in D-FW will allow the number of employees in office buildings to rebound and exceed pre-pandemic levels in the next cycle.

DFW office-using jobs are “20% above pre-pandemic levels,” he said. “Some of the other larger markets didn’t recover until last year.”
