LUFKIN, Texas — An East Texas city has named a new manager for its animal shelter.
After seven months, the city of Lufkin announced the promotion of Morgan Williams from interim manager to the official role of Animal Services Manager of Kurth Memorial Animal Service.
“I’m excited to be here, the opportunity to stay permanently, and the changes that will continue making the shelter a better place for our community,” Williams said.
In April 2023, Williams assumed the role of interim manager for the animal shelter. Before coming to Lufkin, she worked at city of Humble Animal Control for 10 years.
At the Lufkin animal shelter, she has overseen several positive changes such as the selection and implementation of new policies, standard operating practices, animal care techniques, and housing strategies. During the shelter renovations, Williams has also hired and trained a new team.
“Morgan has demonstrated the knowledge, experience, and abilities to succeed as animal services manager,” said Kevin Gee, City of Lufkin Manager. “We are pleased with the shelter’s progress under her leadership and believe she is the best person for the job.”
Williams and her team are working with rescue organizations to prepare animals for adoption.
“Our team is looking forward to additional shelter renovations, and we’re hoping to secure grant funding to address some of those needs in the future," Williams said.
