Workforce Solutions of Central Texas recently honored the city of Killeen at a We Hire Vets employer recognition event for the city’s commitment to hiring veterans, officials said in a news release.

The city of Killeen was among 50 employers recognized last Thursday. The ceremony is the largest event of its kind in Central Texas, the release said.

About 27% of the city’s 1,300 employees are veterans. Of the 524 area residents hired by the city in 2021 and 2022, 142 were veterans.

According to the release, the city also had dedicated Human Resource professionals who are veterans. Additionally, the city has a leadership program, the Supervisor’s Academy, in which veteran employees can participate.

“We aim to make the transition from military to the civilian workforce one that is comfortable and effortless,” Eva Bark, executive director of Killeen’s Human Resources Department, said in the release. “We support our military community and have the tools to help ensure their success with the city of Killeen.”

Workforce Solutions of Central Texas says the “We Hire Vets” Employer Recognition Event is a testament to the crucial role employers play in supporting veterans as they transition into the civilian workforce. Workforce Solutions, the Texas Workforce Commission and the Texas Veterans Commission commends businesses that actively contribute to the success and well-being of veterans.
