City of Houston mourns loss of Larry Payne

For the past 30 years, mayors have turned to Larry Payne to "lead various initiatives or assist in conflict resolution," according to Mayor Sylvester Turner.
HOUSTON — The City of Houston is mourning the loss of Larry Payne on Sunday night. He had been battling cancer.
Payne served as the chief of staff for former Houston Mayor Kathy Whitmire. He also served as the chair of Mayor Sylvester Turner's task force on policing reform, which was established in the wake of George Floyd's death.
Turner said, in part, "This city will be forever indebted to Larry Payne for his unselfish service and his wife and family for sharing him with us. On a personal note, I shall miss my friend who left it all on the field."
