The Temple Police Department is offering free steering wheel locks to Temple residents who own Kia and Hyundai vehicles to aid in keeping their cars safe from theft. There are 196 locks available. The giveaway will take place 1 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Temple Police Department, 209 E. Ave. A in Temple.
A steering wheel lock is a metal rod that is connected to the steering wheel to prevent it from turning and can only be unlocked with a designated key. They help serve as a visual deterrent and signal to thieves that a car will be difficult to steal.
Residents interested in receiving a lock must visit the police department in person with their Kia or Hyundai vehicle and proof of Temple residency.
After November 29, residents can visit Temple Police Department Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to pick up a lock pending availability.
