Belize City Council Commits to Aid Sister City Angleton, Texas After Hurricane Beryl Landfall
In a heartening display of international solidarity, the Belize City Council has announced its commitment to assist Angleton, Texas, one of its sister cities in the United States. Angleton has a long road ahead as it relates to hurricane recovery. This week saw the city grappling with devastating impacts of Hurricane Beryl. According to city councilor, Eluide Miller, the
relief efforts aim to ensure sustained support and continued comradery with Angleton.
Eluide Miller, Belize City Councillor:
“We have been Sister Cities with the City of Angleton for almost two years now and we maintain a very close line of contact with them. We speak with them regularly and so our thoughts and prayers are with them following Hurricane Beryl making landfall within that area. We spoke to the city manager, Mr. Chris Whitaker, leading up to the hurricane and even after the hurricane and you know there was quite some damages to homes and I think
there was a couple of deaths within the area. And so we just wanted to let them know that we’re with them. We’ve made it clear that we’re here to assist in any way that we could to offer any support that we could from afar. And so our thoughts are certainly with them during this time. We are waiting some feedback from them to see exactly what kind of assistance they would require. Of course, we want to assist them in exactly the way that they need our assistance, but I could already see that we
will be doing some kind of clothing drive or food drive to potentially assist them in the long run.”
Belize City and the City of Angleton have shared sister city relations since 2022.
