Our exclusive interview with Grant Magers, CEO with American Rounds, who talks about the new ammunition vending machine in Canyon Lake.< >
"I think it's a good
idea,” Scott Conran said.
Not everyone is on board with the American Rounds ammunition vending machine at the Lowe's Market on Sattler Road in Canyon Lake.
But, according to American Rounds CEO
Grant Magers, this doesn't work like any old vending machine.
As you can see, we have a very secure automated retail machine where we can age verify, scan the driver’s license, and then it takes 360 facial recognitions for the purchase and matches it to the I.D.,” Magers said in a video posted to the American
Rounds website.
It's much different than putting a dollar in and the machine dropping out your chosen delight.
However, it is not just the increased availability of ammo that is concerning to some in the area, It’s also the fact that this machine is in a store located less than 200 yards from a middle school.
Fran Moore has a child who goes to that middle school.
“There is literally every day after school children going over to hang out in that parking lot, going inside to buy snacks,” she said. “It's just extra disturbing to me that it is in a place where children have direct access to it."
But, speaking with employees at the
market Tuesday, they said the machine was put in because that is what their clientele is interested in. And most of the customers that we spoke to think that the machine is awesome and is a benefit to the community.
“I endorse shooting and protection,” Conran said. “I think everyone should be able to buy guns and ammo if they are licensed and old enough."
