LEANDER, Texas (KXAN) — A woman who works for the City of Leander is recovering after police said another woman shot her when she went in Friday morning to clean a public park’s restroom.
Leander police said officers responded to the
shooting at about 6:45 a.m. and found an injured 31-year-old city employee at the Benbrook Ranch Skate Park, located at 1100 Halsey Drive. Police said they learned the worker went into the public restroom near the disc golf course and encountered a woman identified as Hannah Morgan-Barber, 32. According to police, Morgan-Barber then shot the worker with a pistol and ran from the area.
Police said the victim and the suspect got into
some sort of argument at another park earlier in the morning.
“This is very much an isolated incident. We have not had an incident at a park, such as this, in the 20 years that I’ve been here,” Lt. Mike Mohler with Leander police said.
The city employee got taken to a local hospital and is expected to be OK, police said.
Police said they later found Morgan-Barber about three miles west of the park in the 14000 block of Hero Way and took her into custody. Officers said she had a pistol with her, which they seized.
Morgan-Barber is now at the Williamson County Jail, where police said she will face a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. No attorney is currently listed for her, according to jail
records.
Leander police said they believe this is an isolated incident and that the city’s park areas remain open Friday and are safe to visit.
With kids off for the summer, Lt. Mohler reminds people to keep an eye on them.
“Check in with them, have them check in with you on a regular
basis. Know their locations at all times, either through tracking on the phones or any other apps you may have,” Lt. Mohler said.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
