With a chilly wind blowing and water temperature being at a balmy 52 degrees, Gatesville City Manager, Brad Hunt, remained true to his promise to city employees and made the daring “Polar Plunge” into the somewhat frigid water at the city pool.
Hunt’s
promise was made to city employees in November of 2024. “I had asked our city staff to raise over $7,500 for Food for Families and promised them that, if they did that, I would jump in the city pool in February,” said Hunt.
He continued, “I am proud of the city staff. They ended up raising over $10,300 in five days and they definitely beat my challenge of $7,500 by quite a bit, so now it’s time for me to make good on my promise.”
“We are now at Feb. 14 and running out of days in the month, so here we are. This will be a “semi polar plunge,” but it’s cold enough.” With that being said, Hunt ran and made a flying leap into the pool. After coming back to the surface, spectators heard him yell, “Wow!”
After his frigid pool experience, Hunt said, “Next year, we’ll hopefully have CEOs help us citywide, and we’ll
have more than just me jumping in. But, for now, I appreciate the staff for raising all that money.”
He ended by saying, “And yea, that was really cold!”
